B2B SaaS Platform for Professional Services

New Project-149

PROJECT BACKGROUND

Professional services firms have a compliance problem that nobody talks about openly. Client onboarding in advisory, legal, and financial services still runs on spreadsheets, shared inboxes, and institutional memory. Not because the people doing it are unsophisticated — they’re not. It’s because no off-the-shelf tool has ever been built around how these firms actually operate.

The gap is well-documented. Firms in this space routinely manage multi-stage onboarding across KYC checks, document collection, engagement letters, and regulatory sign-off — all tracked manually, all dependent on whoever owns the inbox that week.

THE PROBLEM

The founder profile for this category is consistent: deep domain expertise, existing client relationships, a clear pain point, and no technical background. The build journey is equally predictable.

Two developer quotes. One eye-watering, one unreliable. Six to twelve months lost. A partially built product at significant cost. No clear way forward.

The mistake is almost always scope. Founders arrive at development conversations having been sold a vision of what their platform could become: automated workflows, client portals, billing integration, multi-firm dashboards. They commission all of it. They get nothing deliverable.

HOW DOTED SOLVED IT

For B2B compliance tooling in professional services, the MVP conversation starts with one question: what’s the single workflow that, if it worked reliably, would make this product worth paying for on day one?

The answer is almost always onboarding status visibility. Not document storage, not automated reminders, not multi-tenancy. Just a clear, shared view of where each client is in the process — accessible to the adviser and, where appropriate, the client.

That’s a scoped, deliverable, testable product. Everything else is version two.

WHAT GETS BUILT

A web-based SaaS platform allowing professional services firms to manage client onboarding compliance from intake to sign-off. Core features for an MVP in this space: customisable compliance checklists mapped to the firm’s existing process, client-facing status access, and a basic audit trail for regulatory purposes.

Built correctly on a scalable architecture, this is an 8–10 week build — not nine months.

OPERATIONAL BENEFITS

Manual compliance tracking — previously managed by email chains and shared spreadsheets — is consolidated into a single system. Onboarding time drops significantly when status is visible in real time rather than chased by phone and email. Standard flows no longer require manual oversight.

THE BROADER LESSON

“Professional services technology doesn’t need to be complex. It needs to be trusted. Founders who build simple, reliable tools that do one thing well consistently outperform those who build comprehensive platforms that do ten things inconsistently.”

Doted’s approach to professional services SaaS

If you’re building in this space, we’d rather have that conversation early — before a developer has convinced you that complexity is the point.
